Raising a toast (Kampai) at the Dujat seminar, at the offices of BUREN, 24 October 2024
Good afternoon everyone,
My congratulations also to BUREN. You have moved into a splendid building. Thank you for hosting the seminar that the Dutch and Japanese Trade Federation (Dujat) wanted to offer. I hope that everyone had an informative seminar on directors’ and officers’ liability (D&O liability) under Dutch law.
In government – and perhaps in business too – we may be a little too inclined to think in abstract terms about the responsibilities of directors and officers. Our responsibility towards residents, public officials, employees and shareholders; our responsibility for our products and services.
Because there is also a real personal responsibility, as well as a personal legal liability. It is important for us to be aware of that and to understand what it means in our own particular situation. Hopefully, the seminar has provided you with food for thought. In any event, it will have helped to make you more aware of your position when it comes to D&O liability.
Therefore, let us raise a toast to this gathering. A toast to directors and officers who are aware of their legal position. A toast to directors and officers who are willing to take responsibility: Kampai.
